What is the greatest fear of any IT manager? In our experience it is the unavailability of any part of the IT infrastructure which supports the day-to-day operation of the business. For that reason F4F has designed and built its IT infrastructure from the outset with disaster prevention in mind. The key features which contribute to disaster prevention are: - Use of multiple Class 1 data centres with:
o state-of-the-art controls over physical and electronic access o multiple building feeds for electrical power and telecommunications o electrical power availability measures (UPS and generators) o telecommunications availability measure (architectural design) o a temperature-controlled environment o top-class fire prevention measures - A server hardware specification with built-in redundancy:
o Multiple power feeds to servers o Resilient disk arrays - Dual instances of every server, with spares held on site
- Load balancing solutions to mitigate against unexpected volumes of traffic
- Regular data back-ups and archiving
- Best practice housekeeping and maintenance techniques (e.g. a scheduled roster of planned maintenance; regular application of operating software patches; regular anti-virus software updates)
